Insider is hiring a Photo Fellow to join our Creative Team to produce and edit original images for our newsroom, help source and direct freelance photographers around the world, and ensure quality photo selections across our stories.

The Role & Team:

The Insider Fellowship Program is for early career journalists who want to spend six months learning from a newsroom full of passionate, dedicated journalists. Fellows are assigned to teams and become experts in digital storytelling. They produce real work that is distributed to our audience of millions, and by the end of six months, they are prepared for the next phase of their journalism careers. This role requires you to work for 40 hours a week.

As a Photo Fellow, you will tackle a wide range of daily assignments and responsibilities, including assisting and editing support for large-scale projects, commissioning and working closely with freelancers, and provide general photo-support to meet newsroom wide needs.

This fellow will also assist the Senior Art Director and Associate Photo Editor in finding and coordinating with photographers, placing imagery on our site, and fulfilling in-house image requests from the newsroom. As a Photo Fellow, you’ll gain valuable experience collaborating with journalists and other creatives to brainstorm, create, and edit photo visuals across all of our verticals.

Insider is a flexible workplace when it comes to remote work, but an important part of the fellowship is being a part of the newsroom in person for learning opportunities. Fellows are asked to come into our offices in New York City at least two days a week.

Key Responsibilities:

Produce and edit images for the newsroom
Fulfill in-house image requests
Help reporters find great images for their stories both through our wires and licensing.
Pitch and execute photo-based stories throughout the fellowship.
Offer editing support for large-scale projects

The ideal candidate has:

Experience with photojournalism or documentary work
Expert knowledge of Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop
Mac proficiency
Familiarity with Canon camera systems a plus
Experience with graphic design, styling photoshoots, and prop selection a plus
Experience working with wire image services (Getty, AP, Reuters, etc.) a plus

Additionally, all of our editorial fellows should have:

A passion for digital storytelling and voracious reading habits
Familiarity with digital and social media
The ability to work quickly and collaboratively with a fast-paced team
Proofreading and copyediting skills
A love of Insider and our mission to serve readers with the information and inspiration they need in a way that’s accurate, fair, fast, and fun

Salary & Benefits:

Fellows are paid $20 per hour (overtime when needed and approved)
PTO and paid holidays
Eligible for medical, dental, and vision benefits on 91st day of employment
