Business Insider is hiring a Senior Correspondent to join our Discourse team. We are seeking a talented and experienced writer with deep subject-area expertise to analyze and illuminate the day’s events in our core areas of coverage, from business and finance to tech and the broader economy.

The Role & Team:

As a Senior Correspondent, you will write explainers two to three times a week that unpack and explore the news cycle’s most interesting and urgent topics, from inflation to Elon Musk. Stories will answer pressing questions and make bold arguments that change the way our audience views the forces shaping our world. The subjects will be topical. The tone will be smart, curious and thought-provoking. The correspondent is not an opinion writer; rather, they are skilled at pointing out fascinating details and connecting the dots in a way that leaves our readers with stronger opinions, or forces them to look at events in a whole new light.

Ideal candidates have experience diving into the national conversation in real time, seeking to alter its course with fresh and compelling perspectives.

This role reports directly to the Editor of the Discourse team. This role can be fully remote and is union eligible.

Key Responsibilities:

Write posts two to three times a week, usually ranging from 500 to 1,500 words, that aim to engage our readers with fascinating and unexpected arguments
Generate post ideas quickly and independently
Deliver clean, accurate, and engaging copy
Proactively pitch ideas to the desk editor and audience team for homepage and pushes

The Ideal Candidate Has:

Big ideas on the day’s most pressing topics and trends
A deep knowledge of the issues they write about
Experience pitching and crafting engrossing, must-read articles at a daily pace
Ability to translate complex ideas for a broad and diverse audience
A proven track record writing explainers that spark conversation
Desire to understand audience trends and pivot accordingly
Ability to collaborate effectively and respectfully with others

Salary & Benefits:

Salary: $125,000 - $200,000 (dependent on skills, experience, and competencies)
