Insider Inc. is looking for a meticulous, creative, and experienced Senior Home Editor to join our growing Reviews team. This editor will oversee much of our coverage in the home and sleep space, as well as serve as the people manager for other editors, reports, and fellows assigned to their section.

The Reviews team is dedicated to providing our audience with honest, straight-forward reviews and how-tos that we believe will maximize our readers’ lives. Our service-driven stories walk readers through the entire life cycle of buying and owning a product – whether it’s a set of bath towels or a new mattress. We use in-depth reporting and testing to help our readers know exactly what to buy.
This role is focused both on bringing original testing and thorough research to our existing library of home buying guides and reviews, as well as producing new coverage that speaks to what our readers are searching for now.
The Senior Home Editor will manage a senior reporter, recruit bi-annual fellows, and cultivate a stellar team of freelance home writers. They will work with team leadership to develop a clear vision for home coverage across the Reviews team and integrate that vision through calendar planning and SEO strategy. The role will involve product testing and writing, people managing, editing, and coverage planning.
This role reports directly to the Deputy Reviews Editor and sits on the Reviews Team. This role can be remote or based out of one of our offices.
Key Responsibilities:
Work with leadership to develop the strategy for home coverage and assign projects to freelance and staff reporters.
Plan the home editorial calendar, using data and SEO to develop coverage that is relevant to readers each month, incorporating a mix of new stories and updates to existing guides.
Cultivate a robust and diverse freelance network, using excellent judgment and understanding of the unique issues relevant to equity and inclusion in the home space.
Manage and mentor the editors, reporters, and fellows assigned to the home section, meeting with them regularly, giving clear feedback on their work, and overseeing their progress on goals.
Manage the workflow of all home stories across multiple writers and deadlines; plan and oversee product research and testing; edit and fact check writers’ work; track performance of published stories and incorporate guidance to optimize coverage.
Contribute original ideas for product testing and story planning, suggest creative strategies, and challenge writers’ and editors’ assumptions.
Test products and write reviews and guides when needed.
Collaborate with the deputy home & kitchen editor and other section editors on coverage for the larger home & kitchen team, especially during big deal days like Black Friday and Prime Day
The Ideal Candidate has:
Excellent editing, writing, researching, and fact-checking skills.
Passion for finding the best home products and extensive knowledge of the home space.
Proven track record of growing traffic and scaling coverage.
Experience working with and editing freelancers, along with an existing network of strong home writers and product testers.
Experience with product testing, including writing and editing kitchen product reviews and distilling complex technical information in a way that is engaging and understandable for readers.
An encyclopedic knowledge of the best home and sleep brands and existing contacts with PR contacts and kitchen industry experts.
An understanding of how to use SEO to optimize editorial content.
A proven track record as a stellar people manager.
Salary & Benefits:
Salary: $90,000. - $100,000. (dependent on skills, experience, and competencies)
