Subeditor

Insider Inc. is hiring a subeditor in the UK to join its global newsroom. Our subeditors handle all kinds of stories — from breaking news to investigative features — as well as headlines, homepages, social-media posts, push alerts, and more. They edit for errors of fact, logic, and sense, in addition to grammar, punctuation, spelling, and style. They tighten writing and make it clearer. Our subeditors are responsible largely for giving second article edits, but more broadly they also have an important role in maintaining and helping to shape Insider’s editorial standards. We value creativity, accountability, and diversity of ideas and opinions. The UK subeditor will report to Insider’s copy chief and will be expected to work largely independently, often consulting with reporters and section editors to improve stories. The ideal candidate will be comfortable reading a wide variety of news stories and quickly identifying issues both stylistic and substantive.
