The Globe and Mail is seeking a Senior Style Editor – Digital to join our Lifestyles team.

This position requires a passion for creative storytelling in the following categories: mid- to high-end luxury travel (destinations and experiences), fashion (style, beauty, investment pieces, trends), the home (design, décor, entertaining)and food/wine (restaurant, dining and cocktail/drink trends).

The successful candidate will be a mindful and multi-tasking editor who has the ability to assign digital-first stories about the people, products and ideas at the forefront of aspirational living. Seasoned experience with managing a roster of freelancers, assigning stories ranging from short style news hits to longer features, writing strong headlines and being an avid follower and translator of broad cultural trends are required. The final candidate will work in a spirit of collaboration with various staff and departments at The Globe. Previous experience assigning shopping guides and market edit coverage would be an asset, along with an interest in visuals such as brainstorming fresh concepts for photography, illustration, social and video.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assign staff and freelance writers to a range of topics related to Lifestyles
Work with colleagues across the department and wider newsroom to brainstorm story ideas as well as the best way to tell them
Manage freelance budget
Edit and post stories
Use audience data to inform coverage and topic areas

QUALIFICATIONS:

At least five years experience in a digital/online editing and assigning role
Previous experience working with life and features content
Passion for treating service journalism as rigorously as any other journalistic work

SALARY: This position is classified as a Project Editor in Group AA of the Editorial Collective Agreement.
