The Role / Position Overview

Investors Chronicle, the investment magazine and website, is seeking an experienced layout sub editor with excellent sub-editing, print layout and digital production skills. This is a key role in the Investors’ Chronicle’s production team, working with the production editor and digital production editor to produce the weekly print magazine, from copy stage through to sending pages to press, and to maintain and enhance the quality of our digital-first publishing output.

Main duties and responsibilities

In this role you will…

Sub-edit copy to house style for the print magazine and website, working quickly and accurately in a CMS and in InDesign.
Write engaging headlines and standfirsts for print and online, using SEO best practice for online stories.
Spot and eliminate errors and make improvements to copy.
Lay out pages in InDesign.
Create tables in InDesign.
Create charts/graphics for use in print and online.
Optimise images for use in print and online.

You’ll bring to the role…

Essential

Proven magazine layout experience, including the ability to create tables and charts.
Proven sub-editing experience, preferably for a weekly business title with extensive experience in a sub-editing role.
Excellent attention to detail with a passion for eliminating spelling, grammar and punctuation errors, improving readability and ensuring that all content is factually correct.
Proven digital production skills, including experience of working in a CMS, an understanding of SEO best practice and the ability to create and optimise images and charts for digital publication.
Ability to learn the IC’s house style and maintain quality.
Must be an expert in Adobe InDesign and proficient in Photoshop, Illustrator and Excel.
Good general knowledge of investing and finance is desirable but not essential.
