Deputy Content Editor

To support the production of dynamic and innovative content of the highest editorial and technical quality. This role will primarily work on ITV News on ITVX, supporting Content Editors in delivering ITV News’ daily coverage on the platform, plus work on ITV News programmes when required.

This role requires a journalist with sound news judgement and the ability to motivate teams in a creative and disciplined manner.

Key Responsibilities:

Support content editors and programme editors in making key editorial judgements to provide an appropriate mix of stories for ITV News on ITVX and linear programmes
Generating original story ideas and treatments
Hold team meetings and brief Producers, Correspondents, News Desks and Newscasters on ITVX and programme content and their role in it
Occasional overall responsibility for all ITVX content
Occasional overall responsibility for content produced/transmitted from the gallery
Making a final check of scripts, video and other content before publication/broadcast
Making decisions on news values, legal issues, taste and decency
Ensure our content reflects the diversity of our audience
In conjunction with our Digital team, ensure there is close co-operation, understanding and creative cross-promotion of all ITV platforms

Scrupulous attention to detail when checking content for accuracy and style
An eye for identifying the best use of picture and graphics
Experience of outputting content from the gallery
Experience of working across multiple platforms
An excellent knowledge and understanding of the importance of diverse contributors in news coverage
Good knowledge of Ofcom regulations and the ITN compliance manual
Awareness of Health and Safety requirements
Awareness and understanding of the financial implications of all decision making
An understanding of personal responsibility for cross-company cooperation within both ITN and ITV
