Janes is recruiting a Washington, DC-based reporter to generate news, analysis, and features covering defence industry and budgets in the Americas. The successful candidate will have experience delivering high-quality news and exclusive analysis, and an understanding of military-industrial affairs. They will work closely with a local team of regional defence journalists and a global team of subject matter experts.

How You Will Contribute At Janes

Write high-quality news, analysis, and features about defence industry and budgets in the Americas.
Develop, pitch, and execute strong analysis and feature ideas.
Commission and edit news stories from across the Americas region, serving as Janes point of contact for regional freelancers’ industry/budgets content.
Source and develop data-driven news stories and analysis.
Attend defence exhibitions and conferences as a news reporter and Janes ambassador.
Maintain a network of key regional contacts.

Requirements

THE IDEAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE FOR THIS ROLE

Experience as a reporter is essential, and a background in military-industrial and corporate affairs and/or M&A reporting is a distinct advantage.
Excellent written and spoken English are essential, along with the ability to sharply edit and peer review copy (including from freelancers for whom English is a second language).
Strong news sense and judgment, with the ability to independently generate story ideas and deliver them with minimal oversight.
Ability to write accurate and unbiased copy concisely and quickly.
Proven record of meeting newsroom deadlines.
A strong work ethic, team spirit, and organisational skills.
