Journalist

The Maryborough District Advertiser has an exciting opportunity for a full time general reporter eager to hit the ground running covering all local news including feature stories, hard news, events, emergencies, court and council meetings.

This position provides an excellent opportunity to cover a wide range of topics while working in a fantastic regional community with a small, dedicated team.

Who We’re Looking For

• Keen interest in news reporting.

• Excellent spelling and grammar skills, and ability to produce error-free copy.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines.

• Photography skills preferred, but not required.

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with the editorial team.

• Driver’s licence is essential.

• A journalism degree and/or industry experience preferred.

The Role

• Cover local news, events and breaking stories.

• Generate and pursue original story ideas.

• Develop local contacts.

• Opportunities to write in other areas of the paper including annual features and magazines.

• This is a full time role. The successful applicant is required to work Monday through to Friday each week, with some out of hours work expected.

Who Are We?

The Advertiser has been a fixture of the local community since 1855.

We publish bi-weekly (Tuesdays and Fridays) covering the Central Goldfields Shire and surrounding localities.
