We are looking to recruit an experienced Journalist to join our team in the UK on a maternity cover contract for 9 to 12 months. The appointed Journalist will be the main writer of news and features in our UK & International Safety Management magazine and website.
Safety Management is a monthly, full-colour magazine which carries news, features, profiles and opinions relating to occupational health, safety, wellbeing and sustainability. The publication aims to be as relevant as possible to our audiences and contains thought-provoking content so that help our readers in all industries and business sectors are kept aware of key developments. It is distributed to nearly 50,000 national and international businesses and opinion-makers. Some knowledge of health, safety, wellbeing, and/or environmental issues is desirable for this role.

British Safety Council was founded In 1957 by James Tye, a World War II veteran. His experience of watching comrades drown because of faulty life jackets influenced his passion for safety. Since then, our creative and impactful campaigning around safety, health and wellbeing has saved tens of thousands of lives. Our vision is very clear that ‘No one should be injured or made ill through their work’. Although we are a not-for-profit organisation and undertake charitable work, we do not currently fundraise, nor do we receive any Government grants. Therefore, the provision of our products and services is critical to our success. These include training, digital learning, publications, audit, consultancy, awards and events.
The successful Journalist will need:
Excellent writing, research, and communication skills.
High level of attention to detail.
Ability to work on own initiative and flexibility to respond promptly to demands.
Excellent understanding of how to use digital channels to drive effective coverage.
Able to work as part of a team.
Minimum of five years of journalism experience in print and/or digital media.
Experience in social media for communications and media purposes.
Experience using InDesign and Pagesuite as well as Google Analytics.
Experience in editing and proofreading.
Solid experience with social media, including blogs, Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.
