The role of a B&T journalist is to create content for B&T newsletters and websites as well as the Misfits events.
You will need to form a deep understanding of the advertising, marketing and media industries you are working in, their major and minor players, the forces being brought to bear upon them and what lies ahead in their future.
Armed with such knowledge, you should aim to inform, provoke and entertain your readers on a daily basis. Delivering top-notch industry news as well as content that propels the Misfits’ portfolio of events to the top of readers’ minds is key.
When you join the Misfits, you join one team. What this means in practical terms is everybody pitches in and helps out their fellow comrades to be the best versions of themselves they can be. This means you will have to rub shoulders with fellow editorial staff, events people, commercial staff and of course production staff. No job is too big or too small for any member of our team. We all take out our own garbage and we all help to walk Luna the office dog.
Specifically on a day-to-day basis as a journalist at the Misfits you are required to:
Write daily news on topics relevant to the marketing, media and advertising sectors.
Contribute to the daily B&T newsletter B&T.
Receive and publish all relevant industry press releases for B&T.
Manage the editorial calendar and write daily stories that promote the Misfits’ portfolio of events.
Write native articles that are sponsored by our clients.
Uphold the highest journalistic values.
Produce copy that is factually accurate, well-written and free from errors.
Stay abreast of industry happenings so you can converse intelligently with clients and contacts and lead them into spilling the inside story to you.
Attend industry events (some late nights and early mornings are required).
Work closely with event staff to ensure all events we are running are well publicised and consequently attended by industry people.
Contribute to the production and execution of marquee Misfits events which include, but are not limited to: The B&T Awards, Cannes in Cairns, Changing The Ratio, 30 under 30, Women in Media, B&T Bootcamp.
Any other task reasonably asked of you by management.
Above all, remember to have fun.
