About the Role

This position will act as a junior multimedia journalist on The Catholic Weekly, Australia’s second oldest publication still in print. The successful candidate will be expected to produce original and engaging content to promote and document Catholic life within the Archdiocese of Sydney.

The Junior Multimedia Journalist will work closely with the Senior Multimedia Journalist and report to the Editor, identifying stories that focus on the good work of the Church and its agencies including, but not limited to education, welfare, social justice, and health care.

Skills and Experience

The preferred candidate will meet the following selection criteria:

1 – 5 years’ experience working in a community or regional newspaper or news website or in a similar role with multi-media experience.
A good working knowledge of the Catholic Church, its agencies and current issues pertaining to it.
Tertiary qualifications essential, journalism, media or communications preferred.
Proficiency and a demonstrable history in the use of social media, including WordPress to maintain a website and Facebook presence.
Good basic all-round experience in video and ability to package up stories in a multi-media execution to ensure best user experience.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, time management skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines.
Demonstrated commitment to the ethos and values of the Catholic Church
