Kansas City PBS has a long tradition of public service that has laid the foundation for expanding its news gathering relationship with our community. Our content platforms — television, radio, digital, social media and educational outreach — exist to serve the diversity of our region. We explore complicated issues with thoughtful reporting. We share the diverse stories of people, places, and progress in our community. We advance conversations through community engagement and social media. Specifically, Kansas City PBS operates four KCPT-related public television channels; KTBG 90.9 The Bridge, an NPR-affiliated AAA music station; and FlatlandKC, an online digital magazine; in addition to social media and community events.

Position:
This beat focuses on crucial water and sustainability issues mainly in a 35-county region including the Kansas City metropolitan area and the surrounding region. But the reporter ventures even farther afield in pursuit of great stories with regional impact. The reporter tells stories in written and video formats.
Salary and Benefits:
$48,000-$50,000
Kansas City PBS/Flatland benefits include the following:
Vacation – Accrual begins immediately. Ten days earned each year the first three years; fifteen days earned each year the next two years and twenty days earned each year thereafter.
Sick Leave – One day earned per month and may be used for personal or family-related illness.
Retirement Plan – KCPBS offers a 403(b) retirement plan with a 100% match up to 5% contribution of base salary and commission (five-year vesting schedule). Contributions begin the first pay period of the month following date of hire.
Health Insurance – KCPBS pays 100% for full-time employee coverage and 50% for spouse and/or dependent coverage. Coverage begins the first day of the month following date of hire. Domestic partner benefits are also available.
Dental Insurance – KCPBS pays 50% for full-time employee coverage and 50% for spouse and/or dependent coverage. Coverage begins the first day of the month following date of hire.
Vision Insurance – KCPBS pays 25% for full-time employee, spouse and/or dependent coverage. Coverage begins the first day of the month following date of hire.
Life Insurance – KCPBS provides and pays 100% of a $10,000 term life insurance policy for each employee. Additional term life insurance is available to full-time employee, spouse and/or dependent. Premiums paid by the employee.
Long Term Disability Insurance – Available to full-time employees. Premium paid by the employee.
Aflac – Available to full-time employees and includes personal accident, cancer, major illness, hospital and short term disablility. Premiums paid by the employee.
Hours of Operation – Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break. Flexible hours and adjusted hours are available if applicable to your position.
Equipment - Kansas City PBS provides a work laptop for employees.
