KDVR FOX31 and Colorado’s Very Own Channel 2 KWGN have an immediate opening for a full-time digital video and content producer in our Denver newsroom.
Position Summary
This role is responsible for creating original videos for our digital platforms as well as updating our website and helping to report news. As a member of our digital team, you’ll be creating engaging and informative videos using a variety of tools and techniques. The Digital Video & Content Producer will be responsive to traffic patterns and audience interest while helping develop new workflows for video creation. You’ll also report and write articles of interest to our local audience and make contributions across the platforms where we publish and distribute content.
Position Responsibilities
Create video stories for a digital news audience, primarily for our website and apps.
Creatively tell stories that enhance the website user experience and add context to key coverage topics through the video format.
Routinely spot video coverage opportunities and produce short video pieces that augment written coverage and provide supplemental context and information to our readers.
Create original videos for high-performing stories that do not have associated videos, including taking raw video and photos to create short clips in fast-paced breaking news situations.
Take existing on-air content, such as packages or air checks, and rework them into digital-first videos.
Experiment and help develop best practices for video style, graphics, format, tone, and the use of sensitive material while serving as an expert for our production software.
Maintain a database of available and reusable video pieces for publication.
Write articles on a variety of topics, from quick-turn breaking news to enterprise stories.
Write attention-grabbing headlines and video titles that grow audience and engagement.
Create engaging posts for social media that drive clicks and support our brands.
Contribute to overall management of website, apps, social accounts, YouTube channel and other platforms.
Evaluate traffic to make decisions on daily video and content needs, and gain insights into larger trends that will grow our local audience.
Craft and send app alerts, desktop notifications and email alerts.
Clip videos from broadcasts to be published online.
Build positive working relationships with newsroom staff and management while working collaboratively on original content. Help train, coach and support others.
Flexibility to perform additional duties.
Skills/Experience Requirements
2 years of experience in news gathering and video production with a preferred emphasis on published video for the digital space.
Ability to respond quickly to breaking news; experience with severe weather coverage is a plus.
Self-starter with an eagerness to find, pitch and execute your own video projects.
Familiarity with the Adobe suite of video and graphics production tools.
Excellent verbal, written, grammar and analytical skills.
Knowledge of AP Style.
Solid foundation in journalism ethics on issues such as copyright and attribution.
Knowledge of SEO best practices.
Experience with video hosting platforms and live streaming.
Organized, technical problem solver and quick decision-maker. Strong multi-tasking abilities.
Ability to quickly learn new things and adapt to change.
Enjoys working in teams and collaborating with people in a variety of roles.
Schedule flexibility. This role may include working early mornings, nights and/or weekends – as well as occasional overtime.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with deadline expectations where tasks and assignments can quickly change.
