We are looking for a Junior Copy-Editor with excellent attention to detail and knowledge of grammar, and who demonstrates a passion for good English. Working as part of a friendly copy-editing team, the successful candidate will copy-edit multi-author legal texts written by contributors from around the world. The successful candidate will also be responsible for handling authors' corrections and proofreading a variety of publications. An ability to read technical text carefully and to revise it without harming the meaning is essential.

Key Responsibilities

Edit and proofread copy submitted by native and non-native English speakers for our legal handbooks and journals.
Copy-edit content and maintain author information using our content management system.
Apply house style for our different brands.
Reword text sensitively without altering the meaning and raise queries for authors where necessary.
Collaborate with the content coordination and production teams, and other departments, to ensure copy is edited, approved and sent to press on time.
Organise and manage workload to meet tight deadlines.

Skills Knowledge And Expertise

Excellent attention to detail

Good comprehension and editing skills
An ability to rewrite complicated text
Good communication skills
Good time-management skills

The following would also be advantageous but not essential:

Experience in publishing or information services
Knowledge of the law
Knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Acrobat
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word
Experience using a CMS
Experience using work-management tools
