Deputy Editor

New Posted 10 October 2023 | Farringdon | LexisNexis

New Law Journal, the leading weekly law magazine, is looking for a deputy editor to join its team.

This position is a crucial lynchpin in the editorial and production processes of the magazine. The role is ideal for someone who is experienced in editing and subbing both online and in print (www.newlawjournal.co.uk)

The position requires a number of skills: editing, sub-editing, page layout software, news writing, plus experience of general website management.

To join (and thrive on) this exciting weekly magazine you must be able to work under pressure and be highly organised. The ideal candidate will be able to work autonomously and be willing and able to shoulder responsibility. We are looking for a real team player, who is web literate, organised, and self motivated, with initiative and the ability to multi task.

While a substantial part of the job will be editing and sub editing news and features, there will also be some news writing and a chunk of website work, eg uploading content and working in tandem with the editor to develop the site’s potential.

This multi-faceted role requires frequent liaison across the business, eg with colleagues in marketing, advertising sales, web development as well as attending inter departmental meetings. Excellent communication skills and the ability to deal confidently and competently with internal and external audiences are therefore essential.

Requirements

Ideally the candidate should have a sub editing qualification - professional subbing and / or editing experience. Solid skills in In-design or similar are essential and you should be used to working in a busy desktop publishing environment.

Key skills include an eye for detail, the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines, as well as excellent written skills and a sound understanding of the online medium.

A law degree is desirable, and all candidates should be able to demonstrate a keen interest in the law.
