About the Role

As a Legal Editor, you will be editing, converting, and publishing manuscripts onto our online platforms. Performing regular quality checks and updating platforms, you'll also assist in the development of new products.

Responsibilities

Researching news and content from newspapers, regulatory sites, legal content and press releases

Selecting appropriate legal news from GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) and MENA region

Writing news to style for daily online service and magazines, and ad hoc contract publications

Commissioning articles for 3 legal magazines on Middle Eastern Law, Middle Eastern Tax Law and Middle Eastern HR professionals

Commissioning and editing online Q&A content on different legal subjects for jurisdictions across the GCC and MENA

Arranging updates of online Q&A content from existing authors and finding alternative authors when necessary

Working collaboratively with other team members/freelancers, providing leads, content and information

Conducting interviews of professionals for the three magazines

Styling content for print books and working with typesetters

Carrying out administrative tasks for tracking content supplies and deliveries for online service from partner organisations

Capturing content using bespoke XML editorial system for online site – applying appropriate taxonomy, categorisation, case and law citations to material. (Knowledge of XML not essential).

Continuously improve operational efficiencies to enhance customer outcomes by establishing key metrics and follow-up dashboard

Implement alternative solutions to enhance or speed up processes/delivery & customer satisfaction

Selecting and writing content for social media

Requirements

Have a Bachelor's degree in law or equivalent work experience

Native English speaker able to write clearly, fluently, and grammatically.

Individual who has knowledge of law and an experience of writing/publishing would be an advantage.

Experience of working with Desktop Publishing software, e.g. Indesign an advantage

Experience of commissioning and working with authors an advantage

Experience of styling material and using editorial systems to capture for online sites an advantage.

Attention to detail and ability to proof and check work accurately.

Understanding of commissioning and writing for different audiences/products and in different styles

Good time management and task prioritisation skills essential

Ability to work to daily and periodic deadlines.

Ability to work accurately with submissions from non-native English speakers.
