About the Role

LexisNexis Canada is seeking to hire a Manager, Legal Writing within the Secondary Content Management Team.

The person in this role is responsible for driving the success of internal content development and strategy, through financial planning, resource allocation, and leading a team to high performance.

Reporting to the Director, Secondary Content, this position will include the following key responsibilities:

Manage a team of writers who are creating and updating a variety of different kinds of secondary content;

Assign projects to team members and supervising their work;

Recruit and negotiate contracts with authors, and ensure timely delivery of manuscripts or manuscript review by those authors;

Budget planning and preparation;

Timely transmittal of all manuscripts to Editorial Operations;

Collaborate and follow-up with authors to ensure timely delivery of manuscript according to our publishing schedule;

Review manuscripts to make sure they adhere to our author guidelines and provide feedback to authors;

Recruit new authors and replace former authors, as required;

Act as a resource person for authors and various internal departments.

This position may be either primarily or fully home-based. Our Canadian head office is located in Toronto, Ontario. However, this position may be based in another province.

Requirements for the position:

A Canadian law degree, or a law degree from another jurisdiction with a Certificate of Qualification from Canada’s National Committee on Accreditation;

Legal research, writing and editing experience;

Project management or coordination experience;

Excellent organizational skills and keen attention to detail;

Ability to manage multiple projects and meet competing deadlines;

Strong relationship-building skills and ability to work collaboratively as part of cross-departmental project teams;

Excellent communication (oral and written) and negotiation skills.
