If the police chief telling you she can’t give you the name of the officer involved in a fatal shooting makes you even more determined to uncover that name and the officer’s history, you may be the reporter we’re looking for.

If a check of court records reveal an uptick in juveniles arrested for drug possession and you wonder why, you may be the reporter we’re looking for.

The Lincoln Journal Star, the capital city’s daily newspaper, needs a full-time breaking news reporter who sees themselves as a watchdog on behalf of readers. This reporter is often at the center of the day’s biggest breaking news story, so competitiveness, urgency and initiative are important. But we also want a journalist who can investigate trends and find enterprise angles and follow-ups to pursue on a beat that often centers on public safety.

You’ll be working weekdays in a newsroom of experienced reporters and editors, who are interested in helping you grow as a reporter and writer. A bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field is required. We prefer candidates with previous reporting experience, but also will consider strong recent graduates. Experience with social media is required and video experience is a plus.
