The reporter understands that breaking news occurs across all newsroom topics – politics, entertainment, business, education, food, police and local government, for example. The breaking news reporter’s primary responsibility is to tell readers what’s happening as it’s happening using all available publishing tools and platforms. We don’t chase every crime, crash or fire. We aren’t interested in police logs. We want quality, not quantity. We want stories only we can tell, ideally, or that our readers need to be told.
