Lonely Planet, a global travel media company, is seeking a talented Destination Editor with a passion for travel and extensive experience managing projects and collaborating with authors and contributors to create engaging and informative content. As a contract Destination Editor, you will be responsible for commissioning and managing the development of guidebooks, from ideation to publication, ensuring that they meet Lonely Planet's standards for accuracy, readability and quality. You will also conceptualize, commission, edit and write travel articles for lonelyplanet.com.
In this role, you will work closely with authors, contributors, and other team members to develop and create compelling content. You will develop and maintain relationships with key travel industry contacts and freelancers, ensuring that all content meets the brand's style, tone and editorial guidelines.
You will collaborate with the marketing team to promote travel content across various platforms, manage budgets, and ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget. You will use analytics tools to measure the effectiveness of Lonely Planet content and make data-driven decisions.
To be successful in this role, you must have 1-3 years of experience in print or online media in an editorial role, with a focus on commissioning and project management. Passion for and knowledge of travel and the online travel space are essential, as are strong project management skills, excellent writing, reporting, and communication skills, and knowledge of AP, Chicago, and/or house style guides. Experience with content management systems and web analytics tools is a plus, as is the ability to work independently and take initiative.
