POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Communications Specialist will operate under the direction of the Director of Communications. The main duties include, but are not limited to:
Represent EM in external communications matters to ensure that critical programs/projects are properly and successfully presented to key audiences.
Prepare a variety of external communications products, including press releases, newsletter articles, briefing materials, speeches, fact sheets, video production and social media content, among others.
Develop working relationships with external and internal communication and press officials in Federal, State, and local government agencies, private businesses, professional and trade organizations.
Assist with facilitating coordination and review of communications products within EM headquarters and within relevant DOE headquarters organizations (e.g. Office of General Counsel).
Analyze and identify current and future communication needs and priorities and provide significant input into the development and implementation of annual and long-range communications plans.
Provide strategic advice to the program director(s) and staff of assigned programs on communications strategy involving a wide range of written materials, traditional and non-traditional publications venues including professional and scientific journals, the program website and other online communications tools, and event planning and coordination.
Collect, assemble, and prepare information concerning the various programs, documents, and activities of the assigned program(s) and parent Program Office.
