Sports Reporter

The Longview Daily News in Southwest Washington state is looking to hire a full-time sports reporter who will help cover high school and college sports (Lower Columbia College). This position will work with the sports editor on a daily basis. The Daily News has a strong web presence and a robust sports section. Our reporters regularly take home awards at state and regional competitions. We’re looking for someone who can unearth nuggets of compelling content for both a loyal print readership and an increasingly savvy digital audience. Duties include feature/game coverage. We emphasize content that will be well read not only in the Longview area but all of Southwest Washington.

Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in journalism; experience is preferred but recent and upcoming college graduates are encouraged to apply. A strong knowledge of AP style, along with excellent grammar and spelling skills is required. Candidates also need to be able to take good photographs at athletic events and be comfortable using social media.

We’re located about 45 minutes north of Portland, Oregon. The Columbia River gorge is about an hour south of Longview, the Pacific Ocean is a one-hour drive to the west and Mount St. Helens and surrounding lakes and mountains are an hour east. When Mount St. Helens blew its top 40 years ago, The Daily News was there, and was honored with a Pulitzer Prize and other awards for our coverage.
