Lookout Local is expanding with our second community, Eugene-Springfield, Oregon, launching soon. We are proud to have won the breaking news Pulitzer in 2024 for our coverage of our area’s unprecedented January, 2023 flooding.
We seek a highly skilled journalist to join this startup team as our education reporter. We are looking for a reporter who will keep children and families at the center of their coverage. You attend the school board meetings and write about policy, but you are not writing for administrators and school board members; you are writing for the parents whose children will be impacted most and tax payers who want to know how their dollars are being spent.
You are a storyteller who has or will build a robust database of sources that is diverse and represents all of Lane County. You will be a champion for children and look outside of the school system for stories of importance to families, which could touch on food insecurity, poverty, housing and healthcare, as we know these issues directly impact a child’s ability to learn.
About Lookout Local: We are building a modern company of journalists and friends in a collaborative, in-office, community-centric environment. And as we plan Lookouts 3-5, we are building a pipeline of ambitious talent.
Our mission is to repopulate news deserts, not by protesting the financially driven chains, but by creating better local news and local news products, ones that earn both membership and advertising dollars every day. We are building robust local news companies — meant to serve their communities and last. We stand for trustworthy, local, independent journalism. Apply today to join the team.
