City Government Reporter

New Posted 17 March 2025 | Eugene, Oregon | Lookout Local

Lookout Local is expanding with our second community, Eugene-Springfield, Oregon, launching soon. We are proud to have won the breaking news Pulitzer in 2024 for coverage of unprecedented flooding in January 2023.

We are looking for a reporter who has a passion for covering local government as the Eugene City Government Reporter. The idea candidate has a passion for how government impacts local citizens and tells stories that help residents understand their local government and how it impacts them. You will be a watchdog for residents, keeping those in power accountable to their constituents. You will attend meetings, but that doesn’t mean you are writing recaps of everything that happened. You will find new storytelling techniques to let readers know what is happening with their elected officials in a way that respects their time, experimenting with non-traditional storytelling formats.

Your coverage of city government will go beyond just the city council. You will keep an eye on city agencies to ensure they are held accountable for serving residents of Eugene. If taxpayer dollars are involved, you are keeping an eye on it for our readers
