Community Editor, Latino Initiatives

New Posted 30 November 2022 | El Segundo, CA; Hybrid | Los Angeles Times

The Los Angeles Times is developing a new digital journalism product that will explore Latino culture and identity. We have an immediate opening for a community editor to join a growing team working to represent the contours, diversity and complexity of the various communities within the collective Latino culture. Building on the success of the Latinx Files newsletter, digital Día de Muertos altar and packages on the Chicano Moratorium, Fernandomania @ 40 and LA Vanguardia, this team will bring to life the vibrancy of the U.S. Latino experience with a focus on culture and identity. This product will be multi-platformed in approach with rich visual and audio storytelling, provocative commentary, short documentaries and live events. We are looking for an innovator and collaborator to be instrumental in shaping a cohesive product vision and editorial voice while engaging authentically with the Latino communities in Los Angeles and beyond. The community editor will play a vital role on this team by focusing on building relationships and trust, acknowledging the problems with The Times’ past while working to cultivate space within The Times by and for Latinos.

The successful candidate will have experience working in Latino or Spanish-language news media, an understanding of Los Angeles and the ability to create community around journalism. We want someone who understands the differences within the Latino community and will champion journalism that is for, not just about, the community.
