We are looking for someone with a deep passion for the California story and the creative vision to take the newsletter to the next level. Essential California is a dominant source of information about California and one of The Times’ most popular newsletters. Each previous author has put their own mark on the newsletter, mixing original reporting, Q&As with the staff about important work and rundowns of the best stories of the day across the state. Some of the original reporting ends up being published in the pages of The Times. That’s one possibility for the position, which is open to experimentation. We are eager to make sure our flagship newsletter is always evolving and growing.
