The Los Angeles Times is seeking a reporter to cover the White House. This creative, dogged and fearless reporter will build sources, generate scoops and write clearly on tight deadlines. The ideal candidate will be able to zig when others zag, telling stories with a distinct voice that appeals to our loyal readers in Southern California and the West. This reporter should be eager to bring new facts to light and explain their significance. Generating ambitious and compelling story ideas is essential. This is not a job for someone who wants to simply describe what happened on a given day. The job will require travel and working occasional weekends. Fluency in Spanish is a plus. You will be expected to write political analysis, take photos, develop podcast projects and conduct video interviews. Reporters in the bureau also contribute to our newsletters, host live events and make appearances on The Times podcast and our TV show, “L.A. Times Today.” As a member of the Washington, D.C., bureau team, the reporter must be a generous colleague and be willing to pitch in on all D.C.-related coverage when needed. The White House squad is tight-knit, and your ability to be a team player is essential. This job will include coverage of Vice President Kamala Harris and her political future.
