MailOnline’s SEO team is growing. We’re looking to complement and expand our London unit with some additional Senior SEO positions including a Deputy Head of SEO. The right candidate for this role will have an impeccable background in search engine optimisation, extensive experience of working in a newsroom environment and a proven track record of delivering results.
Applicants must demonstrate a sound understanding of SEO best practices and be able to apply those principles in a fast-paced digital publishing setting. The ideal candidate will have strong organisational skills, thrive under pressure and have a passion for growing new audiences and driving traffic to the Mail brand. They will have a solid understanding of editorial, commercial and technical SEO and be able to articulate the value of SEO to senior stakeholders. They will also be able to lead a growing and diverse team and support the Head of SEO in devising and implementing new strategies across the newsroom.
Requirements and accountabilities
Significant newsroom experience - journalism background preferred
Confident with a range of SEO tools (eg SEMRush, Google Trends, News Dashboard)
Ability to spot trends, identify traffic-driving opportunities and communicate those to the newsroom
Make recommendations on SEO best practices and optimise stories
Sound understanding of Google Discover, Google News, organic search and Top Stories - and how to grow traffic across these referrers
Be an enthusiastic evangelist for SEO in the newsroom
Produce and deliver robust SEO strategies to drive audience in key areas
Analyse and report on successes and failures to stakeholders
Coordinate SEO advice, lead SEO presence in newsroom conferences and inform editorial with clear SEO-lead insights
Competence in technical SEO would be an asset
Manage rotas and carry out SEO training
Flexibility regarding shift patterns (some evening and weekends will be required)
