The Child Mind Institute seeks a Managing Editor to help lead the Editorial team within the Marketing and Communications Department. The Managing Editor will oversee the team’s work in creating and/or editing content for childmind.org and other Child Mind Institute communications. The role involves coordinating the work of the Editorial Team with stakeholders from across the organization to advance organizational priorities, including public education, clinical outreach, science and advocacy. The Managing Editor will work with partners inside and outside the organization to ensure timely completion, and quality control, of work to fulfill grants and other commitments.
The Editorial Department is responsible for creating and maintaining the resources in the Family Resource Center on childmind.org, and creating content for the weekly public education newsletter, as well as the Child Mind Institute’s social channels. The department also supports awareness campaigns, clinical marketing initiatives, fundraising campaigns, and other activities of the organization, helping shape and polish messaging with an eye to brand guidelines and staying true to its voice.
Reporting to the Editorial Director , this is a full-time, hybrid exempt position, split between remote work and our Midtown New York City office.

Responsibilities
Help lead the Editorial team in its roles supporting the Child Mind Institute’s Family Resource Center and other educational resources, marketing initiatives and communications with families, educators, mental health professionals and thought leaders
Work with staff writer/editors, freelance writers, other organizational figures and partners to develop content in support of the Child Mind Institute’s mission areas
Oversee organizing, scheduling and monitoring of the workload in the Editorial Department to ensure high standards and timely completion of responsibilities
Serve as editorial liaison to the Digital Team on SEO initiatives to increase traffic to the Family Resource center
Coordinate work by the Editorial Team on initiatives in fulfillment of grants and serve as editorial liaison to the other departments involved in these grants
Coordinate the work of the Editorial Team with the Clinical Marketing department to enhance promotion of clinical services and improve the representation of the Child Mind Institute’s clinical practice on childmind.org and in other outreach efforts
Along with other members of the Editorial Team, create content for the Family Resource Center and pitch in on editing communications from other departments, ensuring that they further the organization’s mission areas and stay true to the organization's voice
Coordinate with Spanish editor to facilitate timely translation of childmind.org resources and other Child Mind Institute communications into Spanish
Help make Child Mind Institute resources on children's mental health accessible to underserved families, including those in Black, low-income, and Spanish-speaking communities.
Coordinate updating of articles and other content on childmind.org to reflect developments in the field
Perform special projects or assignments as required
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism or related field
At least 8 years professional experience in journalism, publishing, or content creation in a mission-driven organization
Experience writing, copy editing and proofreading for print and/or online venues
Experience working with a team of writer/editors
Aptitude for organization of people and projects
Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as strong interpersonal skills
Experience with mental health, health or other complex issues preferred
Entrepreneurial, creative and ambitious
Passion for the Child Mind Institute mission
