The Argus-Press, the only daily newspaper serving Shiawassee County, Michigan, is seeking a managing editor to join and oversee its close-knit staff. Candidates should have strong news-gathering skills, a knack for finding good stories within the community, and be well-versed in AP style. The Argus-Press is independently owned and operated by the Campbell family and is not part of any larger organization. The managing editor is responsible, via both hands-on and delegated responsibilities, for the production of the news presentation of both The Argus-Press (and the related argus-press.com) and The Argus Weekly, our non-subscriber publication, along with occasional special sections. A background in page design / layout is preferred. Knowledge of InDesign and Photoshop is a plus, but not required. Our managing editor also provides some contributions to news and sports reporting as needed. The managing editor creates the schedules for all of the news department members. He or she is also expected to participate in some weekend work as required as we rotate the responsibilities for the Saturday and Sunday newspaper page production among the editors on staff.
