The Daily Sitka Sentinel, an independent, family-owned newspaper serving the island community of Sitka, Alaska, seeks a hands-on Managing Editor to lead a small, dedicated newsroom. This is a full-time position with responsibility for assigning, editing, writing, and laying out the weekday print edition, while also helping expand our digital presence.
Applicants must have strong editing and writing skills, solid news judgment, and a commitment to local journalism. Minimum 3–5 years of newsroom experience and at least two years in a leadership or supervisory role are required.
Sitka is a vibrant island town in Southeast Alaska’s Tongass National Forest, rich in Indigenous history, civic life, arts, and natural beauty. The Sentinel is in the process of transitioning to a new model and this role offers the opportunity to shape the future of local journalism in a community that deeply values its paper.
