ManTech International seeks an experienced Technical Editor to work on site at a Department of Defense facility, the Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division (NSWCCD) of the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), located in Carderock (West Bethesda), Maryland. The successful candidate will work directly with subject matter experts (SMEs) to ensure the delivery of high-quality reporting products relating to security-sensitive topics. We are looking for a mid-to senior-level person—someone who is assertive and proactive with good communication skills.
Although not a requirement, a background in science or engineering and/or the military (preferably the Navy) is ideal; some knowledge of underwater acoustics, ships and submarines, or Navy policies and procedures, would be an additional plus.
This is a full-time, permanent position. Owing to the nature of the published products, there is no opportunity for remote work.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree
Ability to obtain Interim Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to
a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access
to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
3+ years of demonstrated ability editing technical documents for organization, grammar,
spelling, usage, and clarity
Keen attention to detail and an eye for consistency
Fluency in communicating complex issues in a concise manner both verbally and in
writing
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Strong organizational skills
Flexibility in a complex environment
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and on a team
Ability to work on site in West Bethesda, Maryland
Preferred Requirements:
Active SECRET security clearance
Willingness and ability to travel on occasion
Knowledge of PDF authoring programs such as Adobe Acrobat or PDF X-Change Editor
Responsibilities:
Work with a team of editors to copyedit, format, and finalize a variety of organizational
reporting products, including technical reports, white papers, and PowerPoint
presentations. Compose drafts and rewrite as requested.
Follow security classification guidelines, as directed by program requirements.
Guide engineers toward more effective and logical writing and analysis. Evaluate and compile review comments from multiple SMEs into a single document for
adjudication by the authors.
Enforce reporting requirements at report review “Round Table” meetings with technical
leads, including adherence to internal style guide.
Assist in maintaining report schedule spreadsheet; attend weekly meeting to track all
reports through publishing process and alert managers of risks to deadlines.
Assist in process improvements.
Review and update editorial guidance such as style guides and acronyms lists, as needed. Perform other ad hoc duties as requested, such as report archiving and data tracking.
