Terrific opportunity for growth with a suburban Philadelphia medical communications company. We are looking for an enthusiastic, creative, and committed person to join our team as a Medical Editor. This positionwill provide the right person with the opportunity to learn and master a broad range of skills related to medical publishing. The medical editor will collaborate with the editorial director, publishers, and other members of the editorial team, as well the advisory boards and sales staff, to write, edit, proof, and design content for peer-reviewed medical journals, websites, e-newsletters, meetings, and other print and digital communication vehicles targeted at healthcare professionals and consumers across multiple disciplines of medicine. The medical editor will support senior editorial staff in all activities leading to publication, including:
Proofreading, editing, and checking the accuracy of assigned content
Assisting with the peer-review process of submitted manuscripts
Assisting with the design, layout, and production of assigned publications, projects, sites, etc.
Liaising with authors, clinical editors, freelance writers, printing companies, freelance designers, media design companies, clients, and our team members in other departments of the company to generate or solicit content and to negotiate and monitor timescales for stages in the publishing process
Researching and writing evidence-based, healthcare-related content for assigned projects
Creating and deploying e-newsletters using email marketing software
Summarizing published or presented material, including high-level scientific research
Correcting galley proofs
Organizing projects to meet deadlines
Uploading and proofing content to websites using WordPress
Following current events and developments in the healthcare arena across multiple medical disciplines and suggesting original ideas for content and methods of delivery to targeted audiences
Building relationships with doctors and other key opinion leaders who contribute to publications
Attending conferences and other events or meetings related to assigned projects (light traveling is required)
Applicants should have the following:
Four-year Bachelor’s degree in English or other related arts or humanities degrees (e.g., Journalism, Communications)
Pharmaceutical/medical editing experience
Proficiency in English grammar, including excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills
Excellent command of the English language with exceptional writing and editing skills
Attention to detail with the ability to spot errors and inconsistencies
Ability to prioritize, multitask, and work with efficiency
Ability to work well with the other team members , particularly the editorial team
Ability to engage with clients, vendors, members of editorial advisory boards, and authors, many of whom are involved in high-level scientific research, in a professional and courteous manner
Internet savviness (i.e., ability to confidently conduct online research, vet sources of information, and engage in professional social media)
Proficiency in using editing software and tools (InDesign and Photoshop, Wordpress, and graphic design/page layout)
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
