Metro.co.uk delivers news, features, sport, opinion, and shareable content to a fast-growing global audience and we are looking for a Deputy News Editor to join the London team. You will be responsible for pitching, writing, producing, and curating content of interest to our audience which is distributed widely on social media. The role encompasses news editing to support the News Editor and stepping up into that role when required. The job involves the management of editorial production processes, assisting with news page editing, news gathering, copy editing and headline writing.

Working closely with the news team your responsibilities will include:

Producing written content for the website and digital platforms
Delivering vibrant copy while working to very tight deadlines
Generating own news stories, with a keen eye for surfacing compelling content
Managing workflow and research to deliver stories to tight deadlines
Coordinating with fellow co-workers to ensure stories will be produced in a timely fashion for deadlines
Operating content management system for publication of stories
Monitoring analytics and adjusting strategy as needed to optimize KPIs
Producing coverage of significant news events

We are looking for professionals with the following:

Significant newsroom experience
The ability to work under tight deadline pressure
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Applicable knowledge of multiplatform news gathering tools and resources
A passion for research and finding the most interesting information
Strong communication skills to work collaboratively with team members
Prior experience in managing reporters
The ability to establish a strong production process, manage breaking news and identify content that engages our readership
The ability to direct, develop and maintain the quality and output of rolling, 24-hour, digital news
