Metro.co.uk is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic freelance science and technology reporter to write news, features and explainers for its wide audience.

The fields of science and technology are endlessly fascinating, but also cover specialist and complex topics. Our job is to translate and distill this information into a digestible format for absolutely anyone to read and be thrilled by.

From space and medicine to artificial intelligence and archaeology, Metro.co.uk’s science and technology team cover a vast array of topics – no two days are ever the same.

Alongside daily coverage of new scientific papers and breaking news, the role includes pitching and writing engaging and accurate long-form features, interviews, analysis and op-eds based around current events and timeless angles.

Digital production is also a large part of the role, considering how best to present each story using pictures, graphics and video.

The successful candidate will also on occasion attend editorial conferences and lead the desk.

A good knowledge of SEO is required, as is an understanding of how content works across different platforms.

An NCTJ qualification is preferred, but more important is a deep knowledge of and enthusiasm for the science and technology field.
