We're looking for a Senior Social Media Journalist to help distribute Metro.co.uk stories and produce content for social media.

Be part of a creative, dynamic social team used to creating social first content as well as transforming our industry-leading on-site editorial into digestible multimedia content suitable for multiple audiences on a wide range of platforms.

Responsibilities:

Social Media Management and Distribution:

Managing the schedules and output across various social media platforms (such as Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, etc) and third-party platforms (such as Apple News)
Distributing articles and content from the newsroom onto social media platforms, understanding best practice to maximise performance.
Using both native and third-party scheduling tools to assist with Social Media distribution such as Business Suite and SocialFlow
Using native and third-party analytics tools and reporting on the findings to key stakeholders.

Content Creation and Engagement:

Using creative tools such as Canva, or Adobe Creative Suite to create both social first and article-based content to be distributed across our channels.
Understanding platform best practice, algorithmic changes, and data-led insights to inform content creation.
Experience working with social video – including video distribution and identifying & handling UGC video.
Producing social post copy and strategies to target audiences and encourage engagement with our content.

Innovation and Trend Watching:

Monitoring social platforms for trending topics or stories to highlight to the wider newsroom and/or to create social first content.
Innovating content strand ideas or styles alongside team leadership to keep our output engaging and competitive.

Key Skills & Requirements:

3+ years working in a social media role in media and/or journalism
Knowledge of social media, community management and of growing and engaging audiences on a variety of platforms (such as Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, LinkedIn etc)
Experience creating engaging social posts and managing social accounts
Some experience of working within a news/media environment at a local or national level
A strong understanding of the media landscape, particularly around digital media
Experience with social scheduling tools such as SocialFlow, Meta Business Suite and more
Understanding of third-party platforms such as Apple News
Strong analytical skills with the ability to leverage data insights for strategic decision making.
Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple workflows simultaneously.
Experience using creative tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premiere Pro) or similar.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Understanding of the UK media and copyright law
Willingness to work in a dynamic, fast-paced 24/7 news environment with flexibility to work unsociable hours as and when required
