Mid-Atlantic Media (MAM), publisher of Washington Jewish Week, Montgomery Magazine and Washington Family, among others, is looking for an energetic, experienced, assertive, accurate staff writer/reporter with boundless curiosity and ability to learn quickly. A true "content generator" that can multi-task producing story bylines, digital posts, audio and video.
Responsibilities include:
Pitch, edit and write multiple news and feature stories for our DC area publication titles in both print and digital platforms. Success is achieved through efficiency, organization, accuracy and good judgment.
Work and own your reporting beats to develop sources and story ideas, and to deepen your knowledge of the Jewish and local community
Conduct story interviews in person and/or over the phone
Provide photography, video, audio or other artwork for each story you write
Take photos and video everywhere you go in the community
Create daily social media posts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)
Perform administrative tasks (eg. upload stories to website, compile community calendar, compile obituary listing, proof the pages before publication).
Available and amenable to work days, nights, weekdays and weekends. This is not a 40 hour per week job. So eagerness, passion and curiosity are musts.
Knowledge of Jewish community, Judaism, Israel are a plus. Teamwork is a must.
Mid-Atlantic Media, in addition to publishing the aformentioned titles above, encourages writing for its other publication titles which include Baltimore Jewish Times, Baltimore Style, Baltimore's Child, Frederick's Child, Philadelphia Jewish Exponent, and MetroKids Magazine .
