Associate Producer II or Producer I

MPR News is seeking a producer or associate producer for MPR News with Angela Davis. The ideal candidate has a passion for live radio, local news, and telling stories.

The full-time staffer will research topics and book guests for conversations led by the host and will contribute original reporting that inspires timely conversations about regional news and culture. Minnesota is approaching 20 percent Black, Indigenous and People of Color and the Twin Cities metro area is approaching 30 percent BIPOC and we need conversations and reporting that reflect our population.

We want someone who is curious, creative, and collaborative. We want a big thinker who, in collaboration with the digital engagement team, the host and the other producers, will find ways for the journalism that happens during the live show to live on digitally and on the radio in other dayparts.

This full-time position works 40 hours per week and is eligible for benefits.

Compensation Range: Associate Producer II - $58,822-70,600/yr | Producer I - $60,000-72,000/yr. Exact salary determined by experience and education related to the role, organizational compensation structure and internal equity.

Position Responsibility:

Pitch topics for hourlong, local call-ins.
Identify guests, in particular new voices for MPR News.
Write scripts.
Coordinate guest bookings and technical requirements at remote studios.
Contribute ideas for future broadcasts.
Locate, contact, pre-interview, evaluate guests; book guests and confirm bookings.
Direct shows, manage the control room, set rundown timing and coordinate with remote studios.
Screen listener phone calls.
Write promos and scripts and edit and fact-check copy.
Prepare audio for podcast, digital presentation and re-broadcast.
Research sources/guests for background and context.
Rewrite copy for accuracy and clarity.
Support hosts and prepare briefing materials for hosts.
Greet and interact with live studio guests.
Coordinate special projects.
Help manage MPR News social media channels.
Support other MPR news programs and special programming as needed.
Coordinate the work of interns.
Other duties as assigned.
