MinnPost is hiring an engagement coordinator, a new position, that will work to build trust and connection between our journalists and our readers and foster opportunities for MinnPost’s journalism to advance and enrich public discourse across Minnesota communities.
The engagement coordinator will help make MinnPost’s journalism more relevant and responsive through timely feedback to newsroom editors and reporters about issues that are resonating with Minnesotans. The engagement coordinator will also help identify communities that are affected by or would be served by specific stories or beats. This could lead to engagement with these communities during the reporting process and could also help inform distribution strategies aimed at increasing the impact of our journalism. The coordinator will also look for opportunities to foster ongoing dialogue and discussion beyond a story’s publication date.
The engagement coordinator will also play a key role in developing the next iteration of MinnPost’s Community Voices op-ed section, identifying people and topics that will spark public interest and discussion, and will also engage in-person with readers and community members at a variety of community events.
In this role, you will:
Work with MinnPost writers to execute a vision for connecting with readers through newsletters and other means to maximize audience engagement, retention and trust
Engage with, support and expand our network of MinnPost Community Voices contributors
Collaborate with MinnPost’s audience producer and audience editor to maximize engagement on all MinnPost news products
Moderate comments on social media and manage and respond to reader inquiries and feedback
Advocate for the information and journalism that MinnPost readers and Minnesota communities are telling us they want and need through audience and community listening and regular reader surveys
Execute distribution strategies, including republication partnerships, to connect the audiences who want and need MinnPost’s journalism with our work
Attend community events and contribute to MinnPost events, including MinnPost Festival, through creating content and connections with in-person audiences
Relevant skills:
Outstanding oral and written communication skills and the ability to build relationships with both internal and external partners
The ability to work across difference and a commitment to serving and featuring the voices of Minnesota’s diverse communities, many of which have been underserved and underrepresented by the news media
Resourcefulness in finding and connecting with people and groups and understanding their interests
Strong news judgment and the ability to identify the issues and topics driving conversations
Strong organizational skills to track and move a variety of projects forward
Experience leading audience engagement projects, especially through newsletters and social media is a plus
This position’s minimum starting salary is $64,500.
This position is covered by collective bargaining agreement with TNG-CWA 37002, the Minnesota Newspaper & Communications Guild.
