The Editorial Visuals Editor will play a key role sourcing, creating, and assembling all visual content connected to MIT TR’s day to day digital editorial output. As a member of the editorial team, the visuals editor works closely with writers, editors, the copy team, and other stakeholders to procure and produce stunning, impactful and well-consumed visuals to complement TR’s cutting edge journalism. The Visuals Editor consistently elevate the quality of the imagery appearing in TR’s digital stories and will help expand the reach and impact of our journalism through the use of engaging visual assets. While this is a digital-first role, the Visuals Editor will coordinate with MIT TR’s print team to ensure that whenever possible, visuals created for digital platforms can be leveraged in print, and vice versa—the goal being for every high-value visual we create to be equally compelling as a digital experience and a print one. The visuals editor is acutely aware of all digital formats and form factors in which TR’s work is viewed (mobile, Facebook, Twitter and Google AMP previews, Instagram etc) —and does their work with a native understanding of how visual selection will impact performance and perceived value of TR’s journalism on those platforms. This role also has a dotted line to TR’s digital product team, and works with stakeholders throughout the company to constantly improve quality, consistency and connectedness between the work of the Visuals Editor, and all TR-branded products, surfaces and content.
