About the role:

Global regulatory risk news-wire MLex is looking for a Senior IP Correspondent for its London bureau. This is an opportunity for a seasoned reporter to dive deep into stories about intellectual property, including patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets.

The beat involves coverage of intellectual property law and regulation in the UK. MLex seeks to get ahead of the procedural story through deep-dive analyses of legislation to anticipate where regulatory problems may lie. It’s a high-pressure beat in which there’s an expectation you’ll break market-moving news while offering the forward-looking analysis that helps inform decision-makers.

Responsibilities:

MLex is a real-time news-wire that provides in-depth reporting and commentary on intellectual property. We are looking for a Senior IP Correspondent to join our team and help shape our coverage in Europe.

Quickly turn around urgent copy and spot stories that appeal to our broad readership.

Write in-depth investigations and commentary pieces on legislative risks and other relevant topics.

Collaborate with colleagues across Europe and other bureaux to set the direction for our intellectual property coverage.

Mentor and provide feedback to junior colleagues.

Requirements:

Solid reporting experience, including a good amount of years covering UK courts and/or legal reporting.

Proven track record of breaking exclusive news and writing insightful analysis.

Ability to write clearly and concisely in English.

Fluency in another European language, particularly German, is a plus.

Strong news judgment and a broad network of sources across UK regulators, industry, and law firms.

Excellent writing skills with the ability to produce high-quality content quickly.

Deep knowledge of the UK legal environment.
