More Perfect Union is an advocacy and journalism organization with a mission to build power for the working class. We cover politics, policy, labor, business, and economics news through a class lens, and we pair our reporting with activism to help working people win policy fights. We’re hiring a Vertical Video Intern to join our growing team. The Vertical Video Editor Intern will work closely with the social media team as well as our reporters and producers to conceptualize, script, produce, and edit news-driven videos specifically for TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube Shorts.

Editing skills are essential for the role, but the ideal candidates will have passion for and experience in all aspects of video creation: ideation, scripting, and pre-production; production (including field recording and on-camera work); and post-production. They will be working on a range of video formats, including breaking news coverage, on-camera explainers and skits, and concise, shareable versions of our longer-form content.

The Vertical Video Editor Intern must be immersed in and excited about the process of telling stories through video, with the technical and narrative skills to create powerful stories that hook viewers and keep people watching to the end. The position requires a high level of self-sufficiency, strong collaboration and communication skills, and a desire to help develop and grow our brand.

Core Responsibilities:

Conceive of, produce, and/or edit original vertical videos for our social media channels;

Edit on-the-ground footage into compelling social media videos;

Work with the News and The Class Room teams to break down longer produced pieces into compelling short-form content;

Help build distribution plans and strategies to increase engagement with our content;

Monitor analytics, audience sentiments, and social media trends;

Assist with all aspects of video distribution, including scheduling content, community management, and optimizing posts for engagement and search;

Receive assignments from supervisor and colleagues for prompt action;

Operate in a nimble environment;

Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience/Qualifications:

Proficiency with Adobe Premiere;

Interest and experience in on-camera work in news or explainer videos is a major plus;

Passion for, and substantial knowledge of, national politics and economic justice issues;

Regular user of social media, in particular TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube;

An excellent writer, communicator and collaborator, with strong interpersonal skills;

Able to craft a distribution strategy for a particular video or story based on its topic and target audience;

A self-starter who pays close attention to detail and is highly organized and capable of meeting tight deadlines;

Available full-time hours and able to excel in a remote - work from home environment.
