Under general supervision, the Multimedia Producer/Dir, Sr. hosts and participates at all levels in producing at least one news and public affairs program to be broadcast on NMPBS – plus additional hosting and production duties for news and public affairs programming for various digital platforms such as YouTube, Instagram and podcasting platforms. Performs various duties at community events for NMPBS.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Planning and development of local multimedia programs: researches and develops ideas and budgets; writes scripts; schedules interviews, hosts, and facilities; recruits talent; designs sets.
Production of multimedia programs: conducts interviews; manages talent; may serve as editor, videographer, and/or audio/lighting specialist.
Post-production of multimedia programs: edits recorded materials; completes related paperwork such as clearances; labels and stores completed recorded materials.
Provides supervision, training and direction to the production staff, including producers/directors, interns and volunteers.
Collaborates with executive producer to write, develop, and submit grant proposals. May serve as principal investigator where appropriate.
May assist in repair and upkeep of studio and production sets and properties.
May evaluate new audio/visual equipment and direct the installation and interfacing of new equipment in production facilities and classrooms.
Participates in the design of video graphics, titles, music, or creative look of shows; makes editorial decisions regarding assembly of information, illustrations, and content.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Strong journalism background and skills, including interviewing, news gathering, news analysis, synthesizing complex topics and issues.
Strong news judgment and ability to take and keep the pulse of the community.
Ability to generate story and interview ideas.
Creative, collaborative, critical thinking skills.
Knowledge of New Mexico, its issues, its people — and a willingness to learn more.
Ability to partner with team to prepare interview questions and scripts for New Mexico in Focus segments.
Flexibility to handle multiple formats and presentations, from one-on-one interviews to roundtable discussions to field pieces.
Enhanced on-air presence.
Desire to grow and expand our audience for broadcast, podcast and digital platforms.
Non-linear editing skills in programs such as Adobe Premiere.
Familiarity with public media philosophy and ethos.
Commitment to fairness and accuracy in journalism.
Experience or willingness to learn how to host and facilitate community events.
Ability to work with team members in multiple departments, including production, public affairs, marketing, digital and development.
