Description
Fanshawe College Student Union seeks a multimed reporter on a temporary, full-time basis on an 8-month contract.
Responsibilities shall include the writing of stories for print and website in and around the FSU, college affairs, college Sports, and general stories that would be of interest to our readership. The multimedia reporter is required to write in an informative, concise and easy to understand style. The multimedia reporter will shoot, edit and appear in videos regularly, in addition to hosting and editing audio for a weekly podcast series. The multimedia reporter reports to the editor, while providing support to the manager of Publications & Communications and videographer, creating content using various multimedia formats.
Job Duties
Develop and write articles on various college affairs, for print and web content
Take photos and shoot videos that are eye-catching, clear and engaging, to be shared on our social media channels and in stories and editing as required.
Conduct research on various topics
Appropriately source and cite resources
Edit content for correct spelling and grammar
Work with Editor to revise and rewrite sections
Perform extensive fact-checking
Maintain blog to keep in touch with readers
Host and edit audio for weekly podcast series
Collaborate with Interrobang team members to ensure deadlines are met
Organize and prioritize work to meet multiple deadlines
Engage in use of Interrobang social media
Stay current and maintain a library of industry news and reference materials
Stay current on copyright and plagiarism legislation and regulations
Make recommendations for process improvements and more effective methods and mediums
Assist in distribution of Interrobang and Navigator magazine
Use desktop or electronic publishing software
Perform administrative duties as assigned
Working Conditions
Travel may be required

Qualifications
College diploma or bachelor's degree, journalism, broadcasting or closely related field of study
Excellent understanding of print and online journalism, photography and social media
Outstanding verbal communication and writing skills for print and web content
Confident and comfortable on-camera
Knowledge of photography, video reporting and editing
Efficient in covering and producing breaking news stories for web content in a short amount of time
Podcasting skills
Knowledge of CP Writing Style
Ability to accept constructive criticism
Ability to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times
Highly effective teamwork skills
Computer literate, including effective working skills of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, e-mail and Adobe Products
