The Program Manager for Murrow Journalism Fellowship is responsible for the development, administration, and oversight of a journalism fellowship program for early-career journalists interested in reporting on under-served communities and issues in Washington state. This role requires a skilled communicator with excellent organizational abilities, a passion for journalism, and a commitment to supporting the next generation of reporters, writers, and editors.

Key responsibilities of the Program Manager position include:

Participate in the development and management of a journalism fellowship program for recent graduates in consultation with leaderships at the Edward R. Murrow College of Communication.

Assist committee in reviewing and evaluating applications from potential fellows, selecting those who demonstrate exceptional skills, adherence to ethics, curiosity, and commitment to a career in journalism.

Partner with the Murrow College faculty to plan and deliver training sessions and workshops for fellows as part of digital media certificate program for emerging journalists.

Provide mentorship and support to fellows, ensuring they receive the guidance they need to succeed in their fellowships. Assist fellows with logistics including equipment, travel, and administration support.

Collaborate with university staff to coordinate logistics for program events, including orientations, networking events, and speakers.

Monitor program outcomes and produce reports detailing the successes and challenges of the program.

Work with the Murrow College and external partners to promote the program through various communication channels to attract a diverse range of applicants.

This position may be available for hybrid work.

Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in a program-related area and four (4) years of progressively responsible work in the program specialty, which has included at least two (2) years of supervisory experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Experience in journalism, including experience in managing programs or projects.

Demonstrated knowledge of and passion for journalism and the media landscape.

Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.

Ability to work independently, set priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.

Familiarity with digital media and multimedia storytelling techniques.

Working knowledge of common organization-specific and other computer application programs.

Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.

Must have, or be able to obtain, a valid driver’s license at time of hire.
