Managing Editor

My Horry News is an award-winning local news source, established in 1980 with the launch of our first newspaper, The Horry Independent. We are a daily news operation online and publish a series of award-winning weekly newspapers serving various Horry County, South Carolina communities. Altogether, our print products have a combined circulation of more than 56,000. Since 2005, one or more of our newspapers have won weekly General Excellence awards in the South Carolina Press Association annual awards.

Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for a Managing Editor. The Managing Editor will oversee the editorial content of all print and digital publications, manage a team of writers and editors, assign stories, and ensure all content meets journalistic standards. The Managing Editor will also be responsible for helping to develop and execute editorial strategies, providing feedback on content, and coordinating with other departments.

Qualifications

Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills
Experience managing a team of writers and editors
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
Knowledge of AP Style and journalistic standards
Experience with digital content and multimedia journalism
Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or related field
Experience in local news or community journalism is preferred
Experience with SEO and social media marketing is a plus
