Opportunity:
FW Publishing is looking for a highly motivated Editor in Chief. Working closely with the publisher and president, this role is responsible for leading Nashville Post editorial initiatives to attract, retain and drive subscriptions and audience, oversee engagement opportunities, and strategic initiatives for the business. We are seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to lead and oversee our editorial team in creating and maintaining exceptional and robust reporting that resonates with our target audience. As the EIC you play a pivotal role in shaping the editorial strategy, guiding the editorial process, and maintaining the highest standards of quality and integrity. Your goal will be to bring business news-related stories to market in effective, fresh, and creative ways.
This position will play a central role in growing awareness, driving engagement, and encouraging loyalty for Nashville Post. This includes developing editorial calendars, overseeing a small team of reporters and freelancers as we look to grow both readership and subscribers and consider how we show up in other digital spaces, and grow coverage areas and execute the strategy to do so..
The ideal candidate will have professional experience in leading an editorial team across web, print and social, overseeing reporting across multiple industries. We’re seeking a leader who’s highly creative, bold in their leadership approach, analytical with a growth mindset and with deep experience working in a newsroom.
Leadership experience but with the willingness to do all jobs for a small team is essential. Our ideal candidate will be effective at collaborating with our sister publications and stable of writers and editors in our portfolio. What You Will Do:
Develop and implement the overall editorial strategy to reach our target audience, ensuring consistent voice and relevance
Eagerly write news stories and report on topical matters that are important to our readers
Further development and innovative email newsletter strategy and multi-channel content promotion and editorial engagement strategies to drive success
Lead, inspire, and manage a small team of writers, editors, and photographers, and engage with designers. Provide mentorship, feedback, and support for team members' professional growth
Collaborate with your team to plan, create, and curate a wide range of business-related content, including being innovative with videos, podcasts, and more
Maintain editorial standards, ensuring content is accurate, engaging, and aligns with the company's brand and voice
Monitor audience feedback and trends to refine content strategies and increase user engagement
Build and process twice-daily email newsletters
Develop and manage an editorial calendar to ensure timely and consistent content publication
Work closely with marketing, social, design, and other teams to integrate editorial efforts into the overall editorial and marketing strategy
Monitor and optimize content for SEO and utilize analytics to measure content performance and identify areas for improvement
Stay Updated: Keep abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in reporting and content distribution
Assist with event strategy and content
Develop unique collaboration opportunities with other media outlets and collaborate with industry thought leaders
Requirements:
4+ years professional experience as editor, business related reporting preferred
Experience managing multi-channel editorial outlets
People-first leader with a passion for learning, teaching, and building teams
Excel at being out front and representing your publication as a polished professional dynamic leader –willingness to present and moderate panels or discussions in an array of environments
Ability to prioritize, multitask, and stay organized in fast paced environment— understanding how to iterate quickly on new ideas
Experience establishing editorial calendars
Be an astute copy editor
Experience managing a writing and reporting team
Ability to develop a robust sourcing model that provide industry insights, leading to better reporting
Analytical mindset and the ability to use data to inform decisions
Proven track record for being a self-starter, solution-oriented strategic thinker, and creative collaborator
Active problem-solver with strong decision-making capability
