The National Catholic Reporter Publishing Co. is looking for a part-time Editorial Assistant. The Editorial Assistant will provide editorial and administrative support for the team of editors at National Catholic Reporter, EarthBeat and Global Sisters Report. The editorial assistant will be tasked with a variety of responsibilities with both short-term and long-term deadlines, such as publishing content, answering correspondence, assisting editors with planning and organizing and scheduling meetings. This position reports directly to the NCR/EB/GSR managing editor.
Responsibilities:
Assisting with the publication of daily content, including formatting posts, adding images and publishing wire stories.
Updating and maintaining Most Read, Most Recent and Trending Topics website lists for all three publications.
Curating and editing letters to the editor for posting online and for publication in print.
Maintaining editorial email inboxes and correspondence.
Requesting freelancer payments, as well as keeping track of payment documents.
Collating, preparing and entering yearly contest entries.
Assisting editors with updating planning documents as needed.
Scheduling meetings and preparing meeting agendas when needed.
The ideal candidate will have these qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
Experience working with the publication of online content in some capacity.
An ability to work and make decisions independently in the interest of cross-departmental workflow.
Relentless attention to detail, organization, and a strong ability to manage several projects simultaneously with both short-term and long-term deadlines.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, and experience working across multiple time zones in a remote setting.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace (Gmail, Drive, shared documents, etc.) and familiarity with Slack or similar tools.
Experience working within a CMS (We use Drupal).
At least a basic familiarity with AP Style.
Compensation and benefits:
This is a remote, part-time position, working 20 hours a week. Ideal candidates will be based in the U.S. Salary is commensurate with experience and other relevant factors, in the range of $15-18 an hour.
