Job Description

Want to work with one of America’s most loved and trusted brands? The TODAY Digital team covers newsmaking interviews, celebrity updates and cultural trends, as well as original and creative lifestyle features. We’re investing and growing our coverage in the health space, and we’re looking for a multi-talented Reporter and Editor who will contribute to covering health content in both the news and lifestyle realm while driving the brand forward to the next generation of audiences.

This role will report to the Senior Health Editor.

Responsibilities

Assign and edit stories around buzzy and trending stories that emerge in the health space, as well as well-reported original stories. Work with writers to find interesting angles and elements to make a story sing.
Write and report on stories in the health space, ranging from breaking health news and reported health pieces based on the latest studies to evergreen SEO assignments
Judiciously evaluate health news and studies, deciphering what they mean for our readers
Find and pitch interesting and innovative stories – whether it’s the story everyone will be talking about that night (and into the next day) or an in-depth feature
Copy edit stories, following the rules of AP Style and meticulously check for factual errors and typos before publishing
Coordinate with editors and producers on broadcast, site programming, and social team to assist in promotion or prep for the following day
Monitor breaking news stories and audience appetite and responding with a take or angle relevant to our brand
Work with a team of health writers and editors
Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.

Qualifications

5+ years of writing, reporting and editing experience in the health arena
Expertise in assigning and editing stories that are SEO- and Google Discover-friendly
Expertise writing SEO and social headlines
Speak fluent TikTok, Instagram, Twitter and Facebook: must be comfortable framing stories for and posting them to our social media platforms, identifying the content that will resonate with our audience and lend itself to being widely shared
Experience posting and optimizing to social media platforms
Working knowledge of social, video production and online publishing tools

Outstanding communication skills with the ability to prioritize while multitasking
Have proven expertise in the health space
